Middle Class Worse?

11/5/12  By Bernice Napach

A key issue the candidates have talked about was the declining middle class. Many men are not in the work force anymore. The wages of the middle man have fallen by 20% over the last 40 years. The average wages for men and women rose a penny to $23.5 an hour. That caps at a 1.6% increase which doesn't help with the 2% inflation increase. There has been an increase in women earnings and education in the past decade but women are soon following the trend men face. Since 2001, lower wage jobs have increased by 8.6%, high wage jobs by 6.6%, but mid-wage jobs have fallen 7%.

As one can see, jobs have not done well in the past decades. The middle class has suffered the most from this decline in jobs and wages. The percentage of men working has also taken a dive. This really boils down to which candidate can speak of how to create more jobs. With people coming out of college every year looking for a new job, it will be difficult for them since there isn't many opportunities. I believe that this article can change decisions with its statistics on how jobs have faired in the past 40 years. It can swing the votes from either side, it all depends on who the voter believes more in.
