The Real Problem

9/20/12 By Devin Dwyer and Emily Friedman.

Obama said "The most important lesson I've learned is that you can't change Washington from the inside. You can only change it from the outside." He is saying that he cannot change the politics in Washington but the "outside", or the people, can change Washington. He says if he is elected in a second term, he would maintain "a much more constant conversation with the American people" to spur support from congress. Romney then went on an offensive saying that Obama could not change Washington from the inside and won't be able to change it later. "His slogan was 'Yes, we can.' His slogan now is, 'No, I can't,'" said Romney. Romney then goes and says that he can change Washington from the inside and the time for a new president is now. Obama has been saying that "Change" can be gained by pressure from ordinary citizens. Obama states "As citizens, we understand that America is not about what can be done for us. It's about what can be done by us, together, through the hard and frustrating but necessary work of self-government," rallying the people to stand and fight the government for their rights.

The point of taking stand and getting what you want from the government is whats at stake (freedom of speech).

The authors stay in between but lean a bit more on Obama it seems with the last paragraph of the article that says people need to band together to get what they want. If people were to read this article, they would maybe change their mind on who to vote for. It could be Romney saying he could change Washington from the inside or it could be Obama who states that he needs to work with the people so the people can get what they want.
